NORTON® Films and Tapes used in high performance applications in the Aerospace market including high temperature release films in the Vacuum Composite Molding, PTFE and Polyimide products used as primary insulation for Aircraft Hook-up and Airframe Wiring, and other films used in rigorous applications for flame retardant, cleanliness, or sealing.
Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics offers a very wide range of high temperature consumables used in the Vacuum Bagging Process for advanced carbon fiber composites.
NORTON high performance fluoropolymer based films such as FEP, ETFE, MR, polyimide and our new multi-layer technology FLUOROLEASE® A are used as release and chemical barriers which come in direct contact with the composite part. Our high temperature polyimide and VB films are used as vacuum bagging materials in very extreme applications. Our CHR® Tape brand is used as tool tapes, hold-down tapes, and flash tapes. Our Films and Tapes are qualified on most of the specifications in the composite market including BAC 5317, BAC 5657, and BAC 5578.

In fact, we are the only world-class supplier who can provide for both the PTFE based products as well as the polyimide based products which make up the bulk of aircraft wire insulation on commercial and military aircraft today.
Our NORTON PTFE films are offered as paste extruded (including laser markable products), skived, and cast versions depending upon the insulation needs. Our NORTON FLUOROWRAP® composite products are polyimide film based products that are coated with PTFE, FEP, and other fluoropolymers to suit individual specifications.

Many of Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics' high performance films are used in different mechanical and barrier applications through airframe and aircraft engines. Examples of this would include barrier films for aircraft insulation blankets where our lightweight, flame-proof NORTON polyimide film is preferred by many airlines. Other applications include our ZITEX® PTFE gasket material used seals in many aircraft engines.
