Films for septa, stopper and other closures, low friction films for prosthetics, ultra-pure filtering membranes, FDA-USDA-CSA compliant materials, sampling bags, blood bags, anti-microbial, fungi and bacterial surfaces and work station protection.
CHEMFILM® Cast Film and ZITEX® Porous Membrane are used for their controlled permeation rate in gas sensors and detectors. CHEMFILM Cast Film is produced as thin as 6 microns which, together with its 100% PTFE composition, determines diffusion rates for various substances to be detected. Our ZITEX Membranes come in a variety of thicknesses, void content and effective pore size to control porosity in instrumentation. Both CHEMFILM Cast Film and ZITEX PTFE Membranes are inert to nearly all medical and industrial compounds.

Pharmaceutical compounds and analytical samples, such as for water testing, cannot be contaminated by its packaging. Saint-Gobain offers several solutions for isolating critical compounds from their packaging including CHEMFILM Cast Film and NORTON® Skived Film. Both products are used widely in Septa applications due to the bonding ease with other plastics and rubbers when specially treated as well as their fundamental chemical inertness of pure PTFE. Both cast and skived PTFE are offered in a range of colors for sample identification. These films are used by other groups within Saint-Gobain to produce finished closures as well.

Our ZITEX PTFE porous membranes are used for the filtration of medical media including blood due to the fundamental non-reactivity of PTFE as well as the effective pore size of ZITEX, particularly ZITEX A which range from 2 to 60 microns.

Fluoropolymers are well know for both their chemical inertness as well as low temperature flexibility. Both of these attributes combine favorably in cryogenic sample bags, typically used in biotechnology and genetic studies. FEP film is most common in these applications, however other melt extrudable and heat sealable fluoropolymer films are used for collection, preparation and storage of tissue samples.

Our chemically inert melt-processable fluoropolymers find their way into PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as visors or visor shields. In addition, many protective textiles and plastics utilize these melt-processable films as a “glue” during construction. These films are used by other groups within Saint-Gobain to produce finished PPE as well.
