NORTON® Cast Film Products
NORTON® Cast Films.... Outstanding Quality from Unique Multilaminar Casting Process
Saint-Gobain has been an innovator in the industrial application of fluorocarbon resins for over 40 years. We have pioneered many sophisticated and novel film and tape products using a multi-laminar casting process. Cast PTFE based material is made up of very thin layers which have been individually deposited, sintered and fused together to produce a material having more uniform properties than can be achieved by any other manufacturing process.
The top portion of the photo at left shows a 4 mil cast PTFE film made up of 12 distinct, uniform laminar passes of fused PTFE dispersion -- each individually controlled and formulated to produce the desired features and properties of its application, and our customers. In contrast, the lower portion of the photo shows a 4 mil skived PTFE film. The granular nature of the PTFE particles is quite visible. Notice the non-uniformity of the concentration of particles -- potential pathways for chemicals and gases through the film.
This unique process allows us to fabricate films ranging from 1/4 to 5 mils in thickness, meeting many agency specifications and suitable for continuous service in a wide temperature range from -320°F to +500°F.
